Societies in Ruin is a one-term class based on various novels set in dystopian futures; we will also be taking a look at the corresponding movies. Seeing the recent media obsession with dystopian futures in the last decade or so, this class seemed like the perfect topic for an interesting and unique semester. My name is Elena Galatas, and I'm perpetual a seventh year, Ravenclaw -- for lack of a better description. I will be your student teacher for this class! I love pretty much everything about dystopian futures/universes, they're a bit of an obsession of mine so this class is just one big passionate topic for me.
There will be five lessons in total this semester, as well as an optional term project, and a final exam. You can earn a maximum of 60 points per lesson -- 30 for each homework assignment and 30 for each extra credit -- but there will be more than 60 points offered on each assignment so that you may have a variation of options to choose from. The maximum amount of points you can earn from this class is 300. In order to earn a quill, you must earn a total of at least 150 points. The final due date for assignments is January or June15 at 11:59 PM HOL time, depending on whether it is the Fall or Spring semesters.
All assignments should be sent to [email protected]. Should any questions arise, you can contact me through either the HOL messaging system or the class email. I will usually do my best to answer as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that this is still an HOL class, and all HOL rules apply. Plagiarism will result in zero points and a warning; continued breaking of the rules will result in your removal from the class and reporting to the Headmaster.
Ultimately, though, this class is about having fun! So don't forget to have a little fun while you're exploring the various worlds! Just keep an eye out for the dangerous obstacles in your path and the villains scattered through the societies as you make your way through the worlds.
