"This is a costume for female tribute of District Seven, which deals in lumber. Her bodice is light and dark brown representing the bark of the three, with whorls that you can usually see on them. Her main mini skirt is made of green leaves that are so commonly found in main species of the trees and some shrubbery. Then there is a long train of sheer, almost see-through light green fabric, signifying air. On the bottom of the train is a mish-mash of yellow, red, orange and brown fabrics, representing fallen autumn leaves."

"This District 1 costume represents the expensive, fancy jewelry, clothing, makeup, and hair care that can be afforded by the district. You’ll note the headband, bracelets, earrings, and necklace all made by district jewelers. The finishing touches on the studded shoes were also crafted by one of our jewelers. The frosted ends to her long hair are something only we can afford here in District 1. Her tattoo is brand new as a gift for her 17th birthday - isn’t it lovely?"

"This is my outfit for District Four. This tribute is dressed up as a sea captain on a ship, and has a trident. This represents District Four because the district focuses a lot on the sea, and fishing. The costume that I designed focuses on the captain part of the jobs that this District, and there is a lot of blue. Blue represents the ocean as well, so I have putt in in a lot of blue. The hat is different, because that makes it stand out. I have putted the trident there as tridents represents Poseidon, and Poseidon is the god of the ocean."

According to the link from the homework, District Four is known for fishing, and so I decided it would be ideal to make a dress that fully gives off the fish vibe. My dress is of a dark blue shade with light blue feather boa that sewed into the dress (top and bottom part). There are also fish of different sizes and colors." 'Rise and shine, Greenie,' Archie heard through the pleasant fog of sleep. He groaned and turned away from the noise, holding his pillow over his ears. 'Too early,' he murmured.
'No such thing as too early, Greenie. Do you want to get punished by Alby? Again,' the voice questioned, with a faint air of amusement. Archie opened his eyes and squinted into the light. Niko, Keeper of the Sloppers was grinning down at him. Archie slowly stood up and put on a shirt, while doing all the necessary morning ablutions. 'How long are you going to keep calling me that?' Archie complained as the two left the hut. He took a good look around the Glade. A lot of the boys were already at work, Archie always being one of the last to wake, but mostly still within the rules. 'At least until another comes,' Niko shrugged as he led Archie towards the kitchens, where both would work today. 'Besides, I come bearing good news.' Archie lifted his right eyebrow and motioned for Niko to speak, so the Keeper continued. 'I observed your work since you came here two weeks ago. I talked to Alby and he agreed that you can be finally assigned to a group,' Niko grinned. 'Congratulations, Archie, you're one of the Baggers now.' Whooping loudly, Archie pumped his fist in the air, attracting a few looks from others in the kitchen. 'Yes, finally!' Out of all the jobs, he wanted to be a Bagger the most. Not necessarily because he liked cleaning up bodies, but he was always interested in providing security. He already had some ideas and he hoped that Ant, Keeper of the Baggers, would listen to him. 'Yeah, yeah, I didn't know you were so happy to leave me,' Niko pouted dramatically, but the effect was lessened by the grin that soon adorned his face. 'You start tomorrow, by the way.' The day passed as it usually did with hard work and not as much excitement. At least, not in the kitchen. As the sun set, whoops were heard from the direction of the maze, making both boys look up. 'I guess all Runners returned,' Archie commented. 'Would you ever want to go in there?' he nodded at the opening, which was now slowly closing. Niko bit his lip. 'Maybe? I don't know. It depends. I'm happy here, but if it meant that we could leave then...' he hummed. Archie nodded, he was of the same thought. 'I'll miss working with you,' he bumped Niko with his shoulders as they left the kitchens and sat by the fire one of the other Gladers lit. 'I'll miss bossing you around,' Niko replied and both boys laughed. Just another day in the Maze. |
You know, it's so friggin' cold here. I'm just so tired of being cold. At night, curled up in the warmest bedding that I can grab, and as close to the fires as I can get, sometimes I have dreams about being warm. Oddly, in my dreams I am so warm that I'm wearing only a couple of pieces of clothing! Some shorts and a t-shirt. How can that be possible?
Anyway, it's morning. Actually, it's before morning but it's time for me to get up. I work in the kitchens. While I really thought I'd want to be a skater, and try to find a way out of this friggin' hell, practicalities dictate that I work in the kitchens. I'm a fairly good cook, which totally surprises me but I don't know why I'm surprised. I keep wondering about things that I know how to do, and I wonder why it is that I know how to do it. Anyway, it's time to get up. First thing to do is stoke that fire. I'm really glad not to be a wood gatherer. I'm really glad not to be a wood chopper. There are a lot of things I'm really glad I'm not. So working in the kitchen, being morning 'chef', is a good thing. We alternate who is in charge of which meal. I do breakfasts currently, someone else does lunch and someone else does dinner. We rotate which meal, too, so that we don't get bored and/or stuck in a rut (and the others don't get the same food over and over again). That was my idea; to rotate the tasks. Before I came here, there was just one cook for all the time. That sucked for her. Then she up and decided to be a Skater and that left the position of 'cook' open. But no one wanted it full-time and this is a sensible group. Also it's a practical group. Our leader knows flat-out that if she decides something that is really not wanted - 'for the greater good' (now WHERE did that phrase pop out of?) - she will be so quick deposed as leader that she won't know what hit her. Anyway, so we rotate cooking. Of course, I stay in the kitchen, for the whole day, but I'm not responsible for getting the other meals out except as a helper. And it's time for me to get up and stop wool-gathering. (Again, another expression that I wonder just WHAT it means.) But getting up means stoking the fire, which means I get to be warm. Did I mention that the kitchen is the only warm place here? Yes, it's good to be a cook. Yep. |
